Carly
Rose

Hi, welcome, & thanks for stopping by!

I'm Carly, textile and fashion designer, artist, illustrator and surface pattern designer, combining my love of colour, clothing and creativity.

My practice revolves heavily around pattern and print development, primarily within the fashion industry, with a background in digital and screen-printing processes.

Combining CAD technology with traditional hand rendering techniques I work across a variety of mediums but predominantly use wet media, loving the vibrancy and textures that both gouache and watercolour paint can achieve.

Inspiring others to stand out and be bold, my practice embraces maximalism, embodying colour with rich saturation, strong contrasts and complimentary colour palettes to create high -spirited designs that are excessive, contemporary, daring and most importantly, fun.

As demand for digital technology continues in the industry, I believe it's important to retain the 'handmade' where possible. For me, this is through illustration, giving love and time to creating hand generated art that highlights my personal skillset. In adopting slow processes and creating personal connection with my work, I hope to carry those connections through to customers & clients.

Fun Facts:

Where does your interest come from?

Both my Poppy and Dad are traditional sign-writers, operating a family business. I spent much of my younger years at the shop watching them work and drawing alongside them. I was given freedom to draw on walls and floors, large rolls of paper would be hung in metres at a time and i'd stand and paint all day. Being given creative freedom growing up as well as complete encouragement to explore, definitely shaped my love for art and my own practice.

What do you enjoy aside from drawing/designing?

If i'm not drawing, painting or making to some degree you'll probably find me outside in the sunshine reading a book. I love to dance and enjoy a bedroom boogie. I live for the theatre and musicals (Grease is unapologetically my favourite film). I'm also a beach baby through and through, spending as much of my free time as possible, in or by the ocean. I'm a big lover of music and live gigs and at any given moment i'm probably carrying a film camera with me.
